Mr S W Mathias

Agapai is a Public Charitable Trust that was founded in the 1960s by Mr. SW Mathias, a philanthropic civil engineer. The trust's mission is to empower the underprivileged in India by providing them with the resources they need to achieve self-reliance. Agapai's early work focused on providing in-kind donations to underprivileged families in the Tamil Nadu district of Kanyakumari. These donations, which included baby chickens or lambs, helped to foster an entrepreneurial spirit among the beneficiaries. As a result, many of the beneficiaries were able to start their own businesses, which provided them with additional revenue streams. In 2018, Agapai transitioned into a Public Charitable Trust (registered in India). This allowed the trust to expand its reach and impact. Today, Agapa provides a variety of services to the underprivileged, including vocational training, financial literacy training, and job placement assistance. Agapai is committed to helping the underprivileged in India reach their full potential. The trust's work is helping to create a more just and equitable society.

Agapai is a non-profit organisation that was founded in response to the poverty and hunger that Mr. SW Mathias witnessed in villages. As part of its efforts, Agapai provides basic training and support to people in rural villages to acquire practical skills. This includes tailoring classes for girls, as well as training for visually impaired and disabled individuals to produce aroma candles that they can sell for a steady income.In the past, Agapai also offered free health and hygiene packages to those in need. However, due to insufficient funding, this initiative has been temporarily discontinued. Nevertheless, Agapai remains committed to resuming this activity and providing much-needed support to marginalised communities.
